John’s Jottings (or Cox’s Pippins) – December 2011

Llandudno now seems like a very long time ago, but some things remain an everlasting memory.

The Dogs for Disabled people is one of the memories, not for how marvellous the dogs are in doing what is required of them, but the one dog an Italian Spinone (Italian Wire-haired Pointing Dog) was always flat out on the floor asleep with everybody stepping over him, even on stage, not a care in the world, how laid back can you be!

Our talks in November

  • The first one on industrial relations gave an insight into the car manufacturing of the 60’s & 70’s when industrial relations were perhaps not at their best, (is the wheel turning full circle again at the present time?)
  • On a lighter note a young lady, Sarah Hardy spoke of her visit to Mexico which the club helped in a small way to fund. Sarah seemed to enjoy Mexico and all it had to offer and I feel sure gained some life experiences from it.
  • Keith Eagland informed some members of his and Janet’s visit to St James Palace to take part in a fund raising dinner for the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas. Guest of honour and speaker was the Duke of Cambridge with the Duchess also in attendance Keith certainly moves in the right circles.

Finally in November the annual Ten Pin Bowling competition, twenty bowlers took part and enjoyed the night’s fun, David Ratcliffe being the highest scorer from the Club and Steve Cartwright’s Family taking the main prizes for the individual highest scores.

Dates for your diary:

  • 13th December Christmas Celebration Dinner at the George Hotel
  • 2nd January 2012 annual walk
  • 7th February 2012 District Governors visit to the club, high attendance that night please.

Thank you to all that help out at the district meeting in Knowle, a far different meeting for our club on a Tuesday night,

And a couple of thoughts to ponder:

Why does the sun lighten our hair, but darken our skin?

Why do they call the airport 'the terminal' if flying is so safe?

Merry Christmas everybody

President John
